WPPB host Ed German (the Urban Jazz Experience and Friday Night Soul) will be appearing in “Deep Down in Brooklyn: An American Story”. The show will be presented by Ed German in conjunction with Boots on the Ground Theater on Tuesday, November 1, at 7:30 p.m. at Guild Hall, 158 Main Street, East Hampton. Admission is free. (Directed by WPPB's Host Bonnie Grice.) Prior to the performance, the 1770 House, 143 Main Street, East Hampton, will offer a special $27 two-course, prix fixe dinner (provide the code JDTLab). On Wednesday, June 18th music legend Horace Silver passed away at age 85. Ed German, host of the Urban Jazz Experience says, "Horace is without question, the greatest and most prolific contributor to modern jazz and the greatest Bop pianist of the 20th century."

On Tuesday, May 13th on The Urban Jazz Experience Ed German celebrates the birth of Gil Evans (Pianist/Composer/Arranger), Red Garland (Pianist), Creed Taylor (Jazz Producer) and Stevie Wonder (Musical Genius). This week Ed German celebrates the births of some musical giants on The Urban Jazz Experience.

Tuesday, April 29th marks the birthdays of composer Duke Ellington and Claus Ogerman, multi-instrumentalist Toots Thielmans, and percussionist Ray Barretto. 

Wednesday, April 30th, International Jazz Day, marks the birthday of the late Percy Heath, a good friend to the station who lived in Montauk, NY.

Celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month with us all week on The Urban Jazz Experience, Monday through Thursday from 8 - 11pm on WPPB.

This week Ed German celebrates the birthdays of some great musicians on The Urban Jazz Experience in honor of Jazz Appreciation Month.   

April 22nd marks the birthdays of prominent bass players, Charles Mingus and Paul Chambers, along with latin jazz artists, Joe Cuba and Candido Camero. 

April 24th of this week marks the birthdays of tenor sax players, Joe Henderson and Johnny Griffin, alongside bassist, Spank De Brest.
